Dr. Tibbetts joins TRA-Olympia on Lilly
TACOMA, Wash., (July 3, 2014)– TRA Medical Imaging, one of the largest sub-specialized radiology practices in Washington, welcomes Grant Tibbetts, MD, Col. (ret), as medical director of TRA-Olympia on Lilly. Dr. Tibbetts brings extensive radiology and leadership expertise and joins TRA after a distinguished career in the United States Air Force Medical Corps, where he earned the rank of Colonel.
Dr. Tibbetts graduated from the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, the Uniformed Services University (USU), in Bethesda, Maryland, and completed residency in radiology at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California. He has served as an Associate Professor of Radiology to both USU and to the University Of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.
During his military career, he received numerous medals and honors, including “Clinician of the Year” for US Air Forces Europe command, the Meritorious Service Medal four times, and the Legion of Merit in 2014.
Dr. Tibbetts has also served as a consultant to various defense programs including service as Radiology’s Chief consultant to the United States Air Force Surgeon General. During this time, he was instrumental in extending tele-radiology capabilities – the ability to remotely transmit patient images – enhancing the global delivery of imaging expertise to distant military medical facilities.
Most recently selected as Chairman of Radiology at San Antonio Military Medical Center, and as Radiology Chairman to the Department of Defense largest radiology residency program, Colonel Tibbetts guided the realignment of Air Force and Army assets into a single team.
Dr. Tibbetts’ approach to patient care and his relationships with other medical professionals is guided by the principle to service: “I was privileged to serve our country in a way that has impacted patient care, while being personally fulfilling,” he said. “I look forward to utilizing my experience to build lasting relationships and deliver excellent care to the patient’s and their providers within our local health care community.”
Dr. Tibbetts has already made a sizable impact to TRA-Olympia on Lilly. He was instrumental in adding 3D Mammography and MRI upgrades at this clinic. Through his leadership, TRA will continue to incorporate a higher level of medical imaging services in Olympia, while maintaining a “Patient First” focus.
Dr. Tibbetts will assume responsibility as Medical Director of TRA-Olympia on Lilly from Randall M. Patten, MD. Dr. Patten, founder of the Lilly clinic, will continue to serve the medical community in a part-time capacity with TRA Medical Imaging.
TRA Medical Imaging provides sub-specialized radiology services, including 24 hour emergency radiology services throughout south Puget Sound, serving eight area hospitals in the MultiCare and Franciscan health systems, 11 TRA operated outpatient imaging centers and numerous medical offices.
